Free licenses for Spanish councils tackling unwanted loneliness
In February 2026, Spain's government approved the country's first National Strategy on Unwanted Loneliness. Behind the strategy is a figure from Spain's National Statistics Institute that rarely makes headlines: 2.5 million older adults live alone in Spain, and two out of three describe that loneliness as long-term.
Olkano is opening a program of free Plus licenses for Spanish councils that want to give their residents a simple way to confirm each day that they are well.
How it works
A person installs Olkano on their phone and picks a time of day to confirm with one tap that they are OK. If the confirmation does not arrive, their trusted contacts get notified.
No wearables. No monitoring centers. No location tracking. Just the phone they already own.
What the program includes
- Free Plus licenses for council residents during the pilot phase
- Spanish-language materials for community outreach
- Hands-on support from the Olkano team during rollout
- A reduced institutional rate if the council chooses to continue after the pilot
The program is built especially for smaller municipalities, where traditional teleassistance services arrive late, poorly, or not at all.
How to take part
Email municipios@olkano.com with the council name, approximate population, and a contact person. We respond within 48 hours with next steps.
Press coverage
Spanish daily As covered the launch in April 2026 under the headline "Olkano, una nueva ayuda para los más mayores" (Olkano, a new aid for older adults).
