Olkano reaches the 42 municipalities of Madrid's Sierra Norte

The Mancomunidad de Interés General de Servicios Sierra Norte (Madrid), the commonwealth of services for the Sierra Norte region north of Madrid, has adopted Olkano in its Unwanted Loneliness Project for older adults. This week, the 42 municipalities of the region began promoting it to their residents through posters, municipal websites and social media.

One region, 42 municipalities

The Sierra Norte is made up of small municipalities, many with an ageing and scattered population, where traditional telecare services do not always reach. The commonwealth's Social Services team has integrated Olkano into its loneliness support program, with its social worker acting as the local contact who explains the app and helps interested residents get started.

Town councils such as Lozoyuela-Navas-Sieteiglesias and Cabanillas de la Sierra have already shared it on their social media using the poster created by the commonwealth itself:

Where it was published

The commonwealth and several of the region's town councils published the program on their websites (in Spanish):

  • Mancomunidad de Servicios Sierra Norte (July 24, 2026)
  • Ayuntamiento de Puentes Viejas (July 21, 2026)
  • Ayuntamiento de Cabanillas de la Sierra (July 21, 2026)
  • Ayuntamiento de Buitrago del Lozoya (July 23, 2026)
  • Ayuntamiento de Horcajo de la Sierra-Aoslos (July 23, 2026)

How Olkano works

A person installs Olkano on their phone and picks a time of day to confirm with a single tap that they are okay. If the confirmation does not arrive, their trusted contacts receive an alert.

It is not an emergency button: it works the other way around. Everything stays silent while you check in, and it only notifies others when you do not (for example, if you cannot reach your phone). No wearables, no call centers, no location tracking.

Do you represent a municipality or region?

The program requires no investment and no prior agreement: a letter of commitment from Olkano guarantees the service during rollout. Write to municipios@olkano.com with the municipality or region, approximate population and a contact person.
